Duomo di Milano probably the most recognisable landmark a vast multi-spired Duomo with some fine pieces of art and is a very ornate structure and totally free.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is not only a shopping center but a work of art in itself stroll passed the many shops and admire the glass ceilings and mosaic floors, it a shopping center so again totally free as long as you stay out of the shops!

Sforza Castle

Castello Sforzesco a complex 15th century castle which is full of little museums you can wander through the grounds of the castle for free and it is a top Milanese attraction.

Parco Sempione the backyard of the Castello Sforzesco and the most popular green area in Milan. Very popular for kicking a ball around in the summer, enjoying a picnic or to watch summer festivals that are held there.

Basilica di Sant'Amborgio was actually built by the patron saint of Milan and was consecrated in 379 a.d. it is one of the oldest churches in Milan.

Giardini Pubblici A large green space set between the Duomo and the Stazione Centrale, it has the Museum of Natural History and the Planetarium (free entry) within it's grounds.

Palazzo Reale located next to the Duomo this is Milan's Royal Palace there are charges for the art exhibits but there is a free Palace Museum (Museo della Regia) which shows the architectural evolution of the palace since the 16th century.


Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore is a basilica that has been rebuilt several times over the centuries which was consecrated in the 5th century and has some original 4th century mosaics and large organ inside.

HangarBicocca a large former factory which is now a contemporary art space supported by the Italian tyre maker Pirelli. There are temporary and permanent displays throughout the year, but please check before visiting as it will be closed for private events.

MACAO a powerful exhibition with a mixture of political and underground cultural art set in an old slaughterhouse not far from the city center itself.
